Australia Job Market Insights: What International Graduates Need to Know

During the recent webinar “Your Post-Graduation Pathway in Australia”, Ms. Shanice Hoang, CEO of Navigate Global, shared practical insights into the current Australian job market and what international graduates should focus on after completing their studies.

Drawing from her experience as both a former migration lawyer and an employer, Shanice outlined where employment demand is growing and how graduates can better align their career planning with market needs. She explained that healthcare and social assistance remain Australia’s fastest-growing sectors, driven by an ageing population and ongoing workforce shortages. These are followed by strong demand in construction and infrastructure, as Australia continues to invest heavily in housing, transport, and regional development. She also noted steady opportunities in professional services and education, particularly for graduates who can apply their skills across industries rather than limiting themselves to traditional roles.

Shanice emphasised that graduates who specialise within their field, gain relevant experience early, and remain flexible in their job choices are better positioned to compete in a tight labour market. She encouraged students to think beyond job titles and instead focus on industries where their skills can add real value.

While briefly touching on visa and sponsorship challenges, Shanice noted that employers are more open to international graduates who demonstrate clear employability, adaptability, and long-term potential. Being open to regional roles and high-demand sectors can significantly improve opportunities.

Key insights from Shanice Hoang’s session included:

  • Healthcare, social assistance, construction, and infrastructure are driving long-term job growth
  • Employers value experience, problem-solving ability, and industry relevance, not just qualifications
  • Flexibility and early career planning are critical for international graduates
  • Strong professional presentation and practical skills increase employability

Navigate Australia continues to support international students and graduates with career guidance, market insights, and migration-aligned strategies, helping them turn their education into sustainable employment and future opportunities in Australia.
